Marnix is a counter-tenor and bass-baritone.

​

As a soloist he sung a lot of Medieval, Renaissance, Barock, and contemporary music.

All kinds of Polyfonic music is his speciality.

 

He sings as a core member with the Gesualdo-Consort Amsterdam  (Harry Van der Kamp).

They are specialised in madrigal singing, and recorded also the whole vocal work of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.

He also sings with the Collegium Vocale Gent  (Philippe Herreweghe).

 

 

Marnix sung and worked for 18 years with the Capilla Flamenca, (Dirk Snellings) where he was the counter-tenor of the vocal male-quartet, featering music from 14th to 16th century.

Together they sung concerts all around the World and made around 40 CD's.

The version presented here, one of Tůma’s five settings of the text, long lay forgotten in the Abbey library in Ottobeuren, until Marnix De Cat (artistic director of the Pluto-Ensemble) rediscovered this gem. It is heard here with the Requiem in F minor by H. I. F. Biber and instrumental works by Biber, his teacher J. H. Schmelzer and his Salzburg colleague A. C. Clamer. Animam gementem cano (‘I hymn the grieving soul’ – the first two words quote the Stabat Mater text) takes us on a journey through many of life's most significant moments: we are confronted with life and death, but also with our personal path towards consciousness. The programme is intended not only to provide comfort for the ‘captive grieving soul’ of every flesh-and-blood human being, but also to offer every curious music lover a voyage of discovery. Phoenix is de mythologische vogel die telkens weer vanuit zijn eigen as verrijst (zoals het Latijn zelf).)   Een leraar Latijn zette de Nederlandse tekst van Gorki's Mia om naar het Latijn, de Capilla Flamenca arrangeerde de top honderd melodie tot polyfoon lied. For years now, "Mia" is a very popular song in Belgium. The song was originally created and performed by Luc De Vos and his band Gorki. Last year, a teacher translated the original Dutch lyrics into Latin and the Capilla Flamenca converted the well known melody to a polyphonic song.
